Amherst Bel Canto Choir, founded in 1994 by its artistic director, Sue Fay Allen, has emerged as one of New York's outstanding choral ensembles. The Choir has grown from the original twenty-five singers to over one hundred twenty singers, divided into three groups: Presto (grades 4-6), Vivace (grades 7-12) and Bravo for changed boys voices (high school girls are added for a full Bravo choir).

The choirs are recognized by audiences for their commitment to excellence and for artistic interpretations of choral works from all styles of music, from medieval chant to 21st century. Bel Canto choristers increase their skills to become better musicians while singing - a most enjoyable way to learn!

This year thirty-two area schools provide singers for the groups, which rehearse once a week. ABC has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chautauqua Symphony and with the Amherst Symphony. The Choir has been selected to perform for area and state music conferences, and has enjoyed joint performances with The Royal Serenaders, High Park Girls Chorus of Toronto, the Ohio University "Singing Men" and many local choirs.
